Obituary

Cornelia "Connie" Olson Moore passed away on October 5, 2017, in Austin, Texas. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 31, 1925 to John N. Olson and Hattie Roberg Olson. She was raised in Galveston, Texas and attended Ball High School. Connie went to the University of Texas at Austin and completed her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. She returned to Galveston where she worked as a chemist and where she met our dad, Walter S. Moore, M.D., as he was attending the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

They married March 1, 1947 and after several moves, settled in Austin, Texas, in 1954. Connie and Walter had three children, Scott, Sharon (Sherry), and Laurie. They loved to sail on their sailboat, the Crescent Moon. They were happily married until Walter's death in 1968.

Connie continued to live a full life, encouraging her children in their education. She returned to U.T. to get her Masters in Library Science. She was appointed by the Governor to the Texas State Library and Historical Commission.

Connie was active in her church, Westminster Presbyterian Church, and in many community groups such as Junior Helping Hand, Assistance League, Austin Heritage Society, Friends of the Austin Public Library, and the Travis County Medical Auxiliary. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts, only leaving one boy behind at Lammes' Candy Factory. She loved being with her friends in her sewing club, her bridge groups, her book club and her investment club. Connie loved and supported the arts such as the Austin Symphony, Laguna Gloria Art Museum and Zachary Scott Theater.

Mom loved to travel, visiting many countries from Greece, Japan, Russia to Brazil. She loved to take photographs of her travels and to share her slides with her friends. She loved to play the piano, especially Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hammerstein. She sewed beautifully making clothes for herself and her daughters. She made great peach cobbler, tuna casserole and lemon meringue pie. Connie loved to read mysteries and she was a killer at crossword puzzles. She loved to play cards, such as bridge, but her favorite was Shanghai with the ladies in the Solarium at Westminster Manor with a glass of wine. She loved a good martini or a frozen margarita, especially when eating Mexican food at El Mercado.
She loved parties and dancing to all kinds of music! Mom loved living at Westminster Manor, which she said was like going back to the dorm at the University of Texas.

Connie loved her friends and she loved her family. Connie loved life!

She is survived by her children, Scott Moore, M.D. and his wife, Bernie, Sharon Moore, M.D., and Laurie Rodgers and her husband, Troy, her grandchildren, Claire Hahn, Chris Handley, Helen Logue, Craig Handley , Josh Rodgers, Dianna Moore, Caitlin Rodgers, Mary Moore, her great- grandchildren, Aiden Imbrescia, Cora Logue, Elliana Rodgers, Boden Logue, her nieces, Kathryn Albee, Robin Guy, Lindy Hunter, her great-niece, Kelly Laning, her great-nephew, Jay Buchanan, and her great-great niece, Dori Laning.
