Obituary

Clifford Stewart, also known as Dad, Papa and G-Pop, was born October 8, 1922, in Winfield, Kansas, and died May 7, 2018 in Austin at the age of 95.

He grew up and spent his younger life in Kansas and Oklahoma. As a young man of 19, Clifford was employed by the War Department at Corsicana, TX, testing various munitions and bombs. Less than a year later he began serving in World War II as part of a bomb disposal squad in the European Theater of Operations.

While in Corsicana he met Vivian Prewitt and they were married after the war in August of 1946. After marriage, they lived in Missouri, Tyler, Houston and California. They returned to Houston to live after retirement and then eventually moved to Austin in October 2006. They were married for over 62 years.

After the war Clifford continued his education earning a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University). He then began a long career with the railroad industry working for the St. Louis Southwestern Railway in Tyler, TX, and then the Southern Pacific Railway in Houston, TX, and San Francisco, CA.

Clifford was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian and his youngest son, Mark Allan. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Barbara Johnson and Eva Shaw.

Clifford is survived by son, Steven Stewart and wife Judy of Austin, granddaughter Cara Massey and husband Brian of Austin and grandson Nicholas Stewart of Arlington, VA. Clifford was blessed with three great-grandsons: Owen Massey, Hudson Massey and Nolan Massey. Clifford is also survived by his brother Milton Stewart and wife Mary of Lynnwood, WA.

Graveside services, with military honors, were held at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX at 1:00PM, Saturday May 12, 2018. A memorial service was held at 10:00AM, on Friday, May 25, 2018, at Austin Baptist Church, 7016 Ribelin Ranch Drive, Austin, TX 78750.
