Obituary

Jesus promised that he went to prepare a place for us and that there were many mansions in his Father's House. Ciro Cid Lopez went there on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2018. Born in Calallen, Texas, lived in Robstown, Texas for fifty years and in Austin, Texas for 34 years he loved God, family and country and many, many friends. His family and friends loved him for his honesty, character and unlimited generosity.

He attended Robstown and St. John's Catholic schools graduating from Robstown High School. He received an Associate of Business Administration Degree from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas and attended Texas A & I University (now Texas A & M University in Kingsville) and the University of Texas. To serve his country he left the University to join the U.S.National Guard, served six years and was Sergeant of Company C.

He was the youngest manager of Lack's Furniture stores in Robstown where he worked for 18 years before he started his own business. Civic duties were important to him and he was a member of the Lion's Club, Boy Scouts of America, United Married Couples Club, Robstown Businessman's Association, Corpus Christi Driscoll Foundation, Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, St. Anthony's Catholic Church and others too many to mention. He served as president of the American Little League. He was on the Robstown City Council for eight years and Police Commissioner for 2 years.

Among the many honors he received were Parent of the Year by El Congreso Nacional De Asuntos Colegiales in Washington D.C., Outstanding Citizen by the United Married Couples Club of Corpus Christi, Texas, Honorary Membership by the Robstown Volunteer Fire Department, the Golden Rule Award for service to the community by the Texas United Fund, Inc. and others.

His generosity was unlimited particularly for family, friends, the young and the elderly. To name a few he donated Coats for Kids in Austin, playground equipment to community centers, Gym equipment to some schools, helped erect a monument for Robstown's Vietnam Veterans, bought shoes for children who were not in school because they had no shoes, toys for various Christmas projects, provided food for those who had none, provided TV sets to schools so students could watch Apollo 11, spent time recruiting students for the University of Texas. and to many more to mention.

In Austin, Texas he began Auto Stop Used Tires and spent 30 years in business. Many people benefited from his generosity when they needed a tire and could not pay for it.

His blood was orange for the University of Texas where he served as an Ambassador at the Alumni Center for 28 years at home games and red for The Robstown Cottonpickers.

In 1965 he married Virginia Alvarez from Victoria, Texas and were married for 53 and a half years. They had two sons, Martin Lopez and Ciro Cid Lopez II now both living in Austin. He was predeceased by his parents Merced and Eulalia V. Lopez, his only brother Eugene and his wife Irmgard Dams Lopez and other relatives. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Daughter-in-Law Cristina R. Lopez, only sister Ninfa L. Bosquez and husband Dr. Robert Bosquez, granddaughters Melody and Chloe Lopez, and nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held on December 8th at 1:00 P.M. at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Road, Austin, Texas. No Eulogies will be allowed before or after Mass. If there is a reception after Mass it will be announced and Eulogies will be allowed at the reception.
