Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Kelly, his wife, Mary Kelly, and his daughter Karen Kelly.

Survived by his brothers Bob and his wife (Karin Kelly), Paul and his wife (Anne Kelly).

Survived by Michael and his wife (Cindy Kelly), Philip and his wife (Cheryl Kelly), and Ann and her husband (Tom Iraggi).

Survived by Grandchildren of Ann and her husband (Tom Iraggi) are Michael, Maria, and Matthew.

Survived by Step Grandchildren of Philip and his wife (Cheryl Kelly), Hunter.

Survived by Step Grandchildren of Michael and his wife (Cindy Kelly) are Hattie, Robert, and Dakota.

Pete grew up in New York and went to high school at Kent School in Connecticut. Pete graduated as an Aerospace Engineer specializing in Guidance and Control from Purdue University.

He served in the Air Force at White Sands, New Mexico working on missiles.

After he left the Air Force, Pete then worked at Convair/ General Dynamics in San Diego on the Atlas Missile Guidance system. He met Mary in San Diego and they were married in February 1955.

Pete's work was important for the beginning of manned space flight development where the Atlas was used as the first Mercury Launch vehicle.

Pete moved his family to Long Island, NY in 1962 to join Grumman Aerospace. He played a key role in the development of the Lunar Module Guidance and Control System. He continued to work for 28 years at Grumman and worked on Guidance and Control System projects such as the F14 Tomcat, the project lead for the Space Shuttle proposal and numerous other aircraft and Satellites.

Pete enjoyed sailing on an Islander 28, named Tranquility Base. He particularly enjoyed racing and regional sailing trips to Cape Cod, Newport Rhode Island, Block Island, and to various Long Island and Connecticut locations.

Upon retirement, Pete and Mary moved to Incline Village Nevada (Lake Tahoe) where they enjoyed Sailing, Cross country skiing, Gambling, Virginia City and spending time at their two favorite restaurants, Azzara's, where they were treated like family and Jason's for charcoal grilled Hamburgers.

Pete and Mary also spent their summers with their family at a beach house in Westerly, Rhode Island creating many memories for their kids and grandkids.
