Obituary

Calvin Alphonso Soriero was born on March 8, 1948 in Washington DC and died on May 14, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. His parents were Calvin Soriero (born in Providence, Rhode Island) and Margaret Beverly Soriero (born in Austin, Texas). Cal had three nicknames - "Joe", "Howdy", and "Fella". While his father was in the Navy, Cal lived his earliest years in Alexandria, Virginia and then moved with his family to Columbus, Ohio. The two years in Columbus were very happy ones for the entire family especially with the new lifelong friendship of the Missildine family. In 1954 the Sorieros moved to Houston where Cal attended River Oaks Elementary, Lanier Junior High, Lamar High School, as well as St. John the Divine Episcopal Church.

In later years Cal moved to Rocky Creek Farm in Round Top with his parents and dogs Blue and Buffy. Cal had a wonderful life at the farm where everyone knew and loved him. He particularly enjoyed helping Robert Hooge at the Round Top Service Station. Eventually his health necessitated a move to the Brenham Nursing Center.

Cal especially enjoyed his guitar, Steamboat Springs, the Black Cat Choir of Round Top and watching wrestling and movies on TV. All of his life, Cal loved to give things away and his last gift was his two prized autographed pictures of the actor Chuck Norris to his beloved niece Alison.

Cal is survived by his brother Tommy and wife Sandy of Dallas, sister Margaret and husband Michael Breeding of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and sister Susan and husband Bill Galbreath of San Antonio. He is also survived by his nieces Tracy, Danielle, Clara, and Alison and by his nephews Tommy Jr, David and Jim and twenty-four grandnieces and nephews.

Cal was a sweet person who did the very best he could with special needs (since birth). He lived his life with remarkable grace and is undoubtedly elated to be reunited with the parents he loved so much.

A graveside ceremony will be held in Austin at 11:00AM Saturday, May 20 at the Austin Memorial Cemetery with the Reverend Laurens Hall officiating.
