Obituary

C.R. "Bo" Browning, born July 27, 1922, passed away after a brief illness on September 2, 2017. Bo was born and raised in Hutto, Texas, and lived his adult life in Austin. Bo was proud to serve during WWII as a pharmacy mate in the Navy Armed Guard in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters. After the war, he married his wife Evelyn and raised two sons, Clint and Mark, in Travis Heights. Bo and Evelyn were married for 53 years before she passed away. He subsequently was married to Dorothy Ayres Whetsell who predeceased him. Bo enjoyed immensely watching his 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren grow.

He worked for Greyhound Bus for 44 years and was an avid collector of all things Greyhound. After retiring, he then worked for Austin Hydro-Gas for 10 years. He and his family attended Southside Church of Christ for many years, where he also served as an elder.

Bo knew almost everyone in old South Austin and was a great repository of 20th century Austin history, living through many decades of change. He never met anyone who was not a friend and would help anyone in need. He was a kind, noble, and gentle man, and a great husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed.

Visitation is Friday, September 8 at Weed-Corley-Fish on North Lamar from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Graveside services will be private.
