Obituary

Bill Defoyd passed away peacefully from complications of a stroke on Saturday September 8, 2018.

Born in Frederick, Oklahoma on October 26, 1929, Bill, brother Paul, and sisters Betty and Jacquetta were raised by Elijah and Thelma Defoyd in the "dust bowl" of the Great Depression. A lifelong accomplished athlete, he was captain of the baseball team, played basketball and was president of the Senior Class at Frederick High School. Bill graduated from Oklahoma A&M (Oklahoma State University) and attended graduate school at the University of Oklahoma before serving as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in the Korean War.

Bill went to work for Travelers' Insurance Company in 1956. He had a long and successful career at Travelers' and retired as the Group Sales Manager of the Houston office in 1991.

Bill met Jane, his wife of 60 years, in St. Louis, Missouri. They raised four children in St. Louis, Tulsa and Houston. He actively pursued his love of sports by coaching his children's baseball teams and playing competitive fast pitch softball, tennis and racquetball. Jane and Bill retired to the family-built beach house in Galveston, later relocating to the Hills in Lakeway, all the while travelling the world, playing golf, and enjoying Tuesday night cocktail parties in the Hills. He was known for his joke-telling and was a great "Pop" to his grandkids and granddogs.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul and sister Betty. He is survived by wife Jane, sister Jacquetta, children Bill (Trudy), Scott, Tony, and Dana (Skip), and grandchildren Devon, Elizabeth, and Gordon.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis, 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, TX 78734.
