Obituary

William H. Kissman, Sr., known to friends as "Bill" or "Lucky", passed away on Friday June 8, 2018 at the age of 89.

Bill was born in Riviera, Texas on March 13, 1929 to Albert and Bertha Kissman. His family moved to Austin in 1939. He married Dorothy (Dottie) Turner on June 30, 1949 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. W. H. (Sonny) Kissman, Jr. and Phyllis Ellen Kissman Fletcher were born to them a few years later. Bill and Dottie lovingly enjoyed 69 years of marriage.

He became a member of the Austin Local Union Ironworkers #482 in 1949 and remained a long-term member of the organization, receiving his 50-year pin. For 25 years he was President of Local #482. He was proud of his many years of service as a member and President and took great pride in his work. Sonny Kissman followed in his father's footsteps and retired from Local #482 in 2005.

Bill was an avid deer hunter and loved sports of all types. He had a short career in boxing and trained other boxers, including Sonny Kissman. After retirement, he remained active by working at Covert Ford.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Bertha; sisters Edna Kissman, Ida Kissman Tanner, and Ann Kissman Reinke; brother Richard Kissman (wife Ellen); sisters Olga Kissman and Ruth Kissman McKee; and son-in-law Randy Fletcher. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; son Sonny Kissman; and daughter Phyllis Kissman Fletcher.

A graveside service will be held at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery on Sunday June 10, 2018 at 11 AM, followed by a celebration of life at Gino's Vino Osteria.
