Obituary for Benadette D. Watkins

June 6, 1949 - March 3, 2019
Austin, Texas | Age 69

On Sunday March 3, 2019, Benadette D. Watkins, our beloved mother and Gigi went to be with God, her treasured mother, father, two brothers and husband in Heaven.

Mom was the youngest of three children, born on June 6, 1949 in Denver, CO to Alfred and Doris Mendez. She grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico with her two brothers Punky and Walter. She married our adored father Les Watkins on July 16, 1973. They raised three children, Jon Paul, Lori and Charlene 'Frog' in El Paso, Texas. She also enjoyed time in Virginia, Arizona, California and the last 9 years in Austin.

Mom's delight and passion were the relationships she had with her family, friends and her dog Butler. She was always able to talk to anybody, and somehow able to get their life story, hopes and dreams while standing in the checkout line! This inherent ability to allow people to open up, created lifelong connections and impressions on so many. Mom loved being with others and would be the first one to get on the floor to play a game! She was also a great problem solver and listener – she loved being able to help someone find their way through any predicament. Mom had a wondrous eye and was curious how all things worked or lived and marveled being in nature (as long as the sun was not out!). In being a true nurturer, she also never turned anyone away, for her heart was always in the right place. Mom lived by the phrase 'leave things better than you found them'. She carried this out in every movement she made, in every object she touched, every animal she held and every person she met. She was our first friend, a source of strength, and most of all our Mother who will provide us with everlasting comfort. We will miss her voice, grace, and humor daily.

She is survived by her son Jon Paul and his wife Leanor, her daughters Lori and Charlene and her husband Dennis, grandchildren Ethan, Graydon, Marshall, and Brooklyn, aunt Shirley, nephews Walter and Steve, many cousins, and friends whom she loved so dearly.

A memorial service will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Chapel on Saturday Match 30th, 2019 at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to in memory of Benadette Watkins.
