Obituary for Barbara Ann Snyder Sinclair

May 6, 1935 - November 13, 2018
Leander, Texas | Age 83

Barbara Ann Snyder Sinclair was born on May 6, 1935 in Stephenville, Texas. She left this earth to be with Jesus on November 13th, 2018.

Barbara was adopted as an infant by Ada Mims Snyder and Marvin E. Snyder of Waco, Texas. She attended Waco High School, graduating with the class of 1953, just a few weeks after the tornado where many fellow Wacoans tragically lost their lives.

The same year she graduated, she met her handsome GI, Eugene (Gene) Sinclair and they were married on December 18, 1953.

Gene and Barbara lived their first years of marriage in Waco where they adopted their daughters, Ellen Cynthia (Cindy) in 1956 and Nanette (Nan) in 1962. In 1963, their family moved to Germany, where Gene was stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base. They traveled all over Europe during their three years there including Italy, France and Switzerland.

When they returned to the United States, they were then stationed in Midwest City, Oklahoma where they remained until Gene was sent to Vietnam. During that time Barbara and her girls returned to Waco and lived on Connally Air Force Base. Barbara did a remarkable job keeping the home fires burning while he was gone and always made sure Cindy and Nan were taken care of and felt safe and loved.

Following Gene's return, they lived in New Mexico, San Antonio, Atlanta, and finally in Austin where they have made their home since 1974.

Barbara spent most of her life being a stay at home mother and wife, always putting her family first. She spent some time working in women's retail as well as serving as a receptionist at MCC for many years. Her favorite job was being Grammy.

Barbara will be remembered for her kind and loving heart. She saw no difference between someone who she was related to by blood and someone she chose to love. She gave her whole self to all of them. She was an amazing cook, wife, mother and Grammy to many.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers David and Marvin. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Eugene Sinclair. Daughter Cindy Sinclair and husband Michael McGeary, daughter Nan Sinclair Castello and husband Chris, granddaughter Lindsay Castello Durr and husband Ross, granddaughter Kate Castello Faulkner and husband Damon, grandson Samuel Castello, and great-grandson Reagan Durr, all of Austin Texas. Sister Jackie Carmichael of New Mexico. Sister Patty DoAne of Washington state, and many other nieces, nephews and in-laws. She is also survived by dozens of "adopted" children and grandchildren throughout Austin and the country.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 17th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Cross Tracks Church, Liberty Hill, Texas. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her name to Dell Children's Hospital of Austin, Texas in honor of her great love for all children.
