Obituary

Arthur McKinley Morris
1929 - 2018

Arthur McKinley Morris, Jr. passed away on May 8, 2018.

Art was a resident of Austin, Texas. He formerly resided in metropolitan Dallas, San Antonio, Honolulu and St. Louis. Art was first and foremost a loving family man, who was respected by all who knew him for his compassion, generosity, and kindness to others.

Art graduated from Wellston High School in St. Louis and subsequently served in the U. S. Air Force from 1949-1952. Art was a pioneer in the computer industry, and was involved in the evolution of data processing since the early 1950's.

Art had a zest for living and shared that enthusiasm with his loved ones and strangers alike. He was an adventurer, inventor, craftsman, toymaker, gardener, rancher, horseman, gifted musician, percussionist, singer and world traveler.

His greatest passion was for his family. He raised three children with his wife of 44 years, Patricia Jane O'Brien: Arthur Morris of San Francisco, Tim Morris of Volente, Texas and Patricia Morris Hoffmann of Spicewood, Texas

He was a mentor, teacher, and visionary to his children and grandchildren and he modeled a lifestyle of self-improvement and caring. Art insisted his kids follow their passions and helped them every step of the way. You could often find Art building toys for his grandchildren or giving a music lesson or helping them with their golf swing.

He also raised the younger siblings of his wife Patricia: Thomas, James, Eugene and Mary Catherine O'Brien following the premature death of their parents.

Later in life, after his beloved wife Patricia had passed, he met , courted, and married Marjorie Meyers Barnes. Art and Marjorie complemented each other, lived a rich life together, and traveled the world, visiting most every country and continent. Art lived the rest of his life by her side.

Art often commented that he was so richly blessed by the love of these two remarkable women.

Art is survived by his wife Marji; by his children: Arthur, Tim, and Patty; by his grandchildren: Andrew Hoffmann of Houston, Zachary Hoffmann of New Haven, Kristina Hoffmann of Spicewood, and Sawyer Morris of Austin; by son in law Fr. Michael T. Hiller; by Marjorie's children: Bonner Barnes, his wife Anita, and their children Corrine and Dana; and Carolyn Barnes Duncan, her husband Robert Duncan, and their children Emileigh and Alexandra. He is loved by many nieces, nephews and god-children.

Art was predeceased by his wife Patricia Jane O'Brien Morris, his parents Arthur Morris and Mary Ethel Culbertson, siblings Catherine, Lester, Floyd, and Tanner Morrow, and son-in-law Daniel Otto Hoffmann.
