Obituary

Alice Parsley passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas on November 11, 2018. She was born in Lubbock, Texas on March 1, 1929 and was raised in Abernathy, Texas by her parents, N.C. Hix and Beatrice Matejowsky Hix. She was awarded a BA in Sociology from Texas Tech where she met and then married Bill J. Parsley in 1950. They remained married until his death in 1990. She was also preceded in death by her two sons, Nash Clay Parsley and Matthew Jay Parsley. She is survived by her sister, Mary Megna of Lubbock, her son, Clint Parsley and his wife, Alex Wilson Albright of Austin, her daughter-in-law, Lynne O. Parsley of Midland, her grandsons, Aaron Parsley of New York City, Nick Parsley of Renton, Washington, and Sam Parsley of Austin, her granddaughter, Alissa Parsley and her husband, Lance Parisher of Austin, and her niece, Laura Lambert and husband, Mike Lambert of Abernathy.

Alice was a kind human being, generous of her time, tolerant of the weaknesses of others, and very curious. She loved to read and traveled throughout the States and in England, Europe, China, India, Russia, Africa, Mexico, Chile, Argentina and the Caribbean. For many years she owned and operated Genesis, a fine home furnishings and gift shop in Lubbock. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who claimed to have attended 120 Little League baseball games in one summer to root on her three boys. She loved animals, including her beloved basset hound, Cindy Lou, Ginger the cat, and the boys' hamsters, guinea pigs, tropical fish, and Little Joe, the goose. She also enjoyed cooking and somehow or other always kept her sons and a good number of their friends well fed. She attended St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Lubbock before moving to Austin in 2011.

Alice served on the Board of the First State Bank of Abernathy and on numerous community boards. She counted hundreds of folks in Lubbock as her treasured friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Bill J. Parsley Presidential Scholarship Endowment which Alice established with the Texas Tech University Foundation when Bill passed away. (Donation information may be found at www.give2tech.com.)

A private graveside service for the family will be held at the Abernathy cemetery.

Thank you to the great folks at The Arbour at Westminster for your care of Alice.
