Obituary

Mr. Alec Nelson Porter, My Son, My Beautiful Mind.

Flashes of memories race through my head of the largest and smallest moments in his life.

As a newborn, I see his sparkling hazel eyes, his tender little fingers and toes, and his gurgling sounds from his lips that wanted to say so much more.
As his father, I quickly realized that both in his younger years and later that I was growing through him in his passion for life. Alec was indeed capricious and challenged us all to make us re-think our own thoughts and actions.

Alec's interpretation on life closely paralleled that of his music. His instrument of choice was the alto saxophone - but he didn't stop there. Alec also played the tenor and the baritone saxophones when in band. His love was the complexities of the symphonies and he also had a fervor for jazz. He is a state champion, and he is my champion.

Alec also embraced the outdoors through the Boy Scouts. He loved being under the stars and made many friends along the way. With his brother Ross and myself, the trail was our second home. He avidly hiked and walked which ultimately lead him to Philmont Scout Ranch where he endured a 100 mile trek with his peers. When he returned from his journey, it was at this point I realized he was now a man. He loved his friends and leaders and spoke of them often.

After graduating at Vandergrift High School, Alec had aspirations to have a career with NASA. He was fascinated with aerospace and technology and was pursuing physics engineering while in school. We had so many conversations on the subject and he amazed me with his perseverance and knowledge on this subject. Alec is now truly in the heavens and he has reached his dreams.

Flashes of memories race through my head of the largest and smallest moments of his life.

I reach up to hug Alec because he is so tall. I tell him I love him.

Mr. Alec Nelson Porter, My Son, My Beautiful Mind.
