Obituary

Pete Urias, 86, passed away peacefully January 2, 2019. He was born in Fort Stockton, Texas, on November 30, 1932 to Lucia Velasquez and Carlos Contreras Urias. His parents welcomed him into their family with four siblings. Pete grew up in Fort Stockton, Texas. He graduated from Fort Stockton High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Pete met the love of his life, Mary Louise ("Mary Lou") Gonzales, were married on August 20, 1955. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Pete and Mary Lou were blessed with five children: Laurie Ann, Thomas Rene, Carol Lynn, Rebecca, and Sarah Elizabeth. Carol Lynn blessed her father with a grandson, Justin Urias Bauer. Pete was equally blessed to welcome a second grandson, Kyle Taylor from his daughter, Sarah Elizabeth and her husband, James Randall Stanfield. Thomas Rene became the father of three daughters, Madison, Cassandra, and Amy.

Pete was most proud of his role as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and successful business owner in the Austin area since he and Mary Lou arrived in Austin, Texas on August 20, 1955. Pete will always be remembered for being ready to provide thoughtful advice and encouraging his children to become independent, kind, and to do their best. He was an avid fan of the Texas Longhorns and was honored to work the UT Football games at Darrell K. Royal – Memorial Stadium.

Pete is survived by a sister, Sarah Swonke; brothers, Carlos Urias II and his wife Mary Urias, Benny Urias; his wife, Mary Lou Urias; daughter, Laurie Ann Calderon and son-in-law Saul Calderon; Thomas Rene Urias and wife Rhonda Williamson Urias; daughter Carol Lynn Urias; daughter Rebecca Gonzales Urias; and daughter Sarah Elizabeth Stanfield and her husband James Randall Stanfield. Pete leaves behind five grandchildren: Justin Urias Bauer, Kyle Taylor Stanfield, Madison Louise Urias, Cassandra Urias, and Amy Urias.

Visitation 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue with Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 3:00 pm.

Internment 11:00 am on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Assumption Cemetery in South Austin.
