Condolence & Memory Journal

Mahalo nui loa Brother Robert for

allowing me to finish NDHS 1961, and

giving me medals that I was not

worthy of. I´ve ,since 6/61, floundered

in life consistently, only to right myself

by the love Our Lady, learned @ NDHS.

Now, in 2021, I can still progress in

sobriety, with the armour of a Knight

of Our Lady shown me summer 1958

building bleachers to stay in NDHS

when you were Prefect of Discipline.

Pray for me, M.E. Powers, HI

Brother Robert found the highest place in Heaven to be with Our Dear Lord. I had the greatest admiration for this good man. I will never forget him. Pray for us Brother Robert.

My uncle Bob was one of the few men in the world I ever wanted to be like.

Posted by Michael Graham - CA   September 24, 2013

In memory of a wonderful Uncle who kept me entertained as a child with his wild antics. He was a caring, loving Uncle & will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace, Uncle Bob.

In memory of my uncle, who had many tricks up his sleeve, who kept us laughing and had wonderful stories. He was always there for his family. You are loved and will be greatly missed.

Brother Robert was a man among men. He was a model for all who knew him. Brother Fischer Iwasko described him best in his masterpiece, The Holy Cross Man that has been referred to in this memorial. "In a word, he is a man of faith and honesty, of strength of character through self-mastery,of respect for the Christian family and lawful authority, of leadership in the pursuit of the good, the true, and the beautiful - that is the Holy Cross Man." And it was Brother Robert Hampton!

Brother Robert was Headmaster of Holy Cross back in the 1970s when I was a student there. Those were the days before the Internet, iPads, cell phones, etc. when we enjoyed more human interaction and we learned from the example of others -- not from video games or social media websites. Brother Robert was a leader that all of us students respected and he was a positive influence in our lives. He was strict, but fair and helped instilled in us a strong sense of right and wrong. Many of us are who we are today because of our experiences at HC under the leadership of Brother Robert. I thank God for allowing me to have Brother Robert to look up to in my youth and may his soul rest in peace for all eternity.

Thank you, Br. Robert for all that you did for the City of New Orleans and its people. In Hurricane Betsy you sheltered and fed thousands of people of the Ninth Ward at Holy Cross School. My three sons graduated Holy Cross under your leadership and you treated my alumni father and graduate of 1906 with such respect and dignity. The Louisiana High School Athletic Association benefited from your skills as a mediator and wise man. I wrote a newspaper article about you when you left New Orleans and there were not enough words to praise you.
You helped me name the live oaks on campus at Holy Cross School on Dauphine for registration in the Live Oak Society and you wrote a wonderful bio of all the priests and brothers for whom they are named.
I shall miss you. You were such an imortant part of our lives. May the angels lead you into Paradise. I hope you meet up with Ken Heckler.

Brther Rober Hampton was a superior Holy Cross Brother. During my affiliations with HC, there were many excellent Brothers who influenced and directed young men into manhood. Brother Robert was with the several who were way above the norm in all of his roles. He will join the many Holy Cross Brothers whom I now pray to. God has blessed you Brother Robert. Heartfelt THANKS to you.

Uncle Bob was my ideal of calm & composure in the realm of Catholic education. The Hampton/Kramers have lost 3 in 2013...a father, a son, and a Holy Spirit...I'll keep the CW alive

In memory of my loving Uncle Bob who kept me laughing for over 70 years & taught me not to talk in class (most of the time) becuase somehow he always knew.

Brother Robert Hampton was the epitome of the Holy Cross Man. I knew him as both parent and teacher. He was hard-nosed in his decisions and fair to all - students, teachers and parents. He was generous with compliments when the job was done right, and quick to let you know when it was not. There were never hard feelings, though. He was a great principal and friend. May he rest in peace.

He was Headmaster throughout my years at Holy Cross. A true Holy Cross Man. He ran a tight ship, always fair and strong. Every now and then you could catch a smile from him. I think of him from time to time and am very thankful he gave his life to the Holy Cross Family. Enjoy your place in Heaven.
