Louanna (Sweetie, Lou, LuLu) McCulley, was born in Mercedes Texas on May 16, 1951 went to be with our Lord the afternoon of Thursday, February 9th. She was the second of four daughters born to O.B. and Billie Maloy. Sweetie succumbed to cancer after a gallant fight that began in December of 1989. During that fight she spent two and a half years in clinical trials in San Antonio and Round Rock and was undaunted in her faith in God even though chemo therapy had left her bald eight times. There was one sure thing, she was as beautiful bald as she was with hair; her many friends and loved ones will attest to that. She fought the battle without complaining and was always thinking of others.
Sweetie grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and spent her senior year in Tomball, Texas where she graduated from high school. She then moved to Austin where she started work at Farmers Insurance. Her career with Farmers spanned more than 35 years. She was a Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) and spent the last 16 years of her career as the executive secretary to the various State Officers as they passed through the State Office. She epitomized what family in the work place means. The close friendships she developed with so many people are a testament of the love she had for everyone she came in contact with.
Louanna is survived by her husband, of more than thirty-eight years Bob, who early on and appropriately enough renamed her Sweetie. She is also survived by her three children; Rob McCulley and his wife Susan and their three children Kaitlyn, Quinn, and Mallory; Tim McCulley and his wife Tammy and their four children Courtney, Garret, Cody and Grant; Stacie Alexander and her son Justin. She is also survived by her mother Billie Lou Maloy and three sisters Rena, Judy and Terri; their husbands and her precious nephews and nieces who will dearly miss their Aunt Lou. There is also, a multitude of other relatives, including a group that called themselves "the cousins" that have already lamented that they will no longer see her smiling face at the many family reunions she loved to attend.
Sweetie's family wants to give special thanks to the many friends who visited her at various junctures of her fight to overcome cancer. We thank her Sunday School Class who provided ongoing prayers, support and encouragement as she offered them inspiration in return. We thank the staff at Texas Oncology and her doctor who referred to her as his miracle patient, Dr. Daren Kocs. And lastly, we thank the many nurses and other staff at the Round Rock, St. David's Hospital; so many went the extra mile in their care of our gift from heaven Louanna (Sweetie, Lou, LuLu) McCulley.
