Tribute & Message From The Family

Joseph (Joe) Gerber passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 18, 2019. He was 85 years old. He was born in Tulia, Texas on February 14, 1934 to Matt and Bernice Gerber.

Joe was loved by multitudes of people because he helped and loved multitudes of people. The individuals he helped turned around and touched someone else in a positive way. He was a wholesome force of goodness.

Joe was a member of that "great generation" who served his country, honored the "right thing to do in every situation", and gave 100% effort in all that he did. He was part of the generation who loved his family, didn't give up his responsibilities, put others before himself, did what he said he was going to do, showed up on time, had no excuses, loved big and enjoyed life. If you were ever around Joe, you can still hear in your mind's memory the life filled laugh that he played for all to hear.

Joe was in the essence of the phrase "soul mate" to Virginia, his loving and caring wife. There was no separation between them, they were one. He was an inspiration and dearly loved by his four children.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Virginia, his daughters: Jeanine and husband, John; Patricia and husband, Phillip; Jackie and husband, Bill; his son John and wife, Robin. He is proud of his wonderful grandchildren Lindsey, Megan, Paige, Nicole, Jason and Erin and honored to have four great grandchildren Letty, June, Waylon and Ava. Also survived by sisters: Marianne, Gloria, Rosemary, Helen, Dolores, Margaret and Barbara.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of St. Ignatius Church, Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, Heavenly Home Health Center, Seton Hospital ICU Team, Austin Paramedics and the many doctors who came to his aide.

Condolence & Memory Journal

When the eternal night comes and rests forever, remember me
When the rain turns the green grass again, remember me.
When the tears come from your eyes, remember me.
But above all, when you smile, remind me.
Because at all times with you I will be.

dedicate to my dear Uncle Joe.

My prayers and condolences for Tia Margarita and the whole family. I have great memories from Uncle Joe while visiting Austin in '76. He was a great person and took the time to teach me a lot new things while living in Austin.

My prayers and condolences for the family. I didn't know Joe but worked with his daughter Jeanine for many years and based on the Child (Jeanine) he raised, I can tell that he had a great work ethic and loved everyone around him. God bless!

Joe, touched my heart the minute I met him. Why? Because of his strong love for Virginia, his family, Church and Friends. During our tenure at the Austin American Statesman he was the one who uplifted everyone with that wonderful smile and with laughter. As I write this tears flow because this man was such a treasure to be around. I have been blessed to walk on life's path with Joe. There are just not words to express how lucky we have been to witness this Great Man. I send my deepest condolences to his family.
