Condolence & Memory Journal

I loved having Thedra as my cousin. She was so compassionate and loving. I was inspired by her cooking, parenting and quilting skills! We had many interests in common - the main one being our family history!
I cherish the quilt that she made for me after the fire and I think of her every morning that I make my bed. I'll miss her terribly. My heart goes out to her family...they meant the world to her!

Well, sorry about getting the date wrong as to when we moved next door to Thedra and Dick. Instead of 1988 (when we left Austin), we moved next door in 1973. That should make a little more sense to family members.

Thedra was the best neighbor anyone could ask for. Soon after we moved next door in 1988, she was inviting our three young sons to their home to play with her boys, who were about the same age. Soon thereafter I reciprocated and had her sons over to our home. It wasn't long before all our children felt as if both homes were open to them as they flitted back and forth--playing inside the houses, in the yards, riding bikes in our cul-de-sac, and sometimes climbing over the back fence where they explored the deep gully and wilderness area. Occasionally, while the children played, Thedra and I would set up lawn chairs outside, keeping our eyes on the young ones. That gave us the opportunity to relax and visit, and we both enjoyed those visits. I've never had another neighbor like Thedra. She definitely made my life better, thanks to our friendship. I regret not having one more visit with her.

Richard, you and your family are in my prayers. I remember Thedra and yourself coming to visit Mom and Dad in Rocky Gap. I remember thinking how beautiful she was and hoping to grow up to be as pretty. (The thoughts of a young girl.). I pray for God's peace, love, and comfort for you all.

Along with my brothers David and Stephen and my sister Laura, I also grew up living next door to the Baldwin's on Millikin Cove in Austin. My condolences to Dick, Lori, Rick, Tim, Julie and all Thedra's family. The Baldwin's weren't just neighbors, they were like a second family. And Thedra (she'll always be Mrs. Baldwin to me) was like a second Mom. I'll always remember those delicious Mexican food dinners our families shared during the Christmas Holidays. And I'll always remember Mrs. Baldwin (Thedra) with a smile on her face. She made this world a better place.

I grew up with Thedra's kids next door to them on Millikin Cove in Austin from 1973 to whenever they moved (~1980?). She was always so kind and happy and loving. My strongest memory of her was her building a clubhouse between her house and ours for us kids to play in. I don't know why but it was shocking to me at the time for a woman to pick up tools and do that kind of work. Loved that clubhouse. My condolences to the family. I will try to make the service.
