Tribute & Message From The Family

Bobby Caraway left his loving family on February 13, 2019. Bobby was born to Wilson and Edna Caraway on October 26, 1937 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was living in Cedar Park, Texas at the time of his passing.

At a very young age, Bobby began to pursue his passion for music. Around the age of 7 he taught himself how to play the guitar. One of his childhood friends was Roy Orbison, who he also taught how to play the guitar. As teenagers, Bobby and his younger brother Terry formed the "Caraway Brothers," with Bobby on vocals and lead guitar and Terry on vocals and rhythm guitar. They began traveling and playing music all over the United States. They later formed a band called the "Rockets" with their brothers-in-laws Tony Keltner on bass and Elvin Mendenall on drums. In 1959, Caraway brothers hit the charts with "Ballin Keen" and "Sweet Lies," which they wrote and recorded at Gold Star Studios and released on Crest Records. Throughout his career Bobby received many special awards including The Traditional Country Hall of Fame and The Rock-A-Billy Hall of Fame, where he was a co-founder along with Marty Stuart. Although Bobby was a fulltime musician, he was also a family man.

A loving father of five children, he always had time for them. Bobby enjoyed bass fishing, playing board games with his family and writing songs. He was also a very talented auto mechanic and liked to restore old cars. Throughout his life, Bobby never lost his passion for playing and performing his songs.

Bobby will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, and his fans.

We love you Dad, we'll see you in heaven.

"For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's." Romans 14:8.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Jan; his son, Tony; his daughters, Laurie, Roberta, and Shannon; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Cody, Rachel, Jordin, Blake, Benjamin and Jackson; and his sister, Barbara Caraway Gardner. He was preceded in death by his first born daughter, Tammy; his brothers, Eugene and Terry; and his sisters, Ewelene and Bonnie.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Leander Chapel, 1200 South Bagdad Rd., Leander, Texas 78641 with burial at Cedar Park Cemetery.

My dear precious husband, I miss you more than words could ever express. There's an old guitar in the corner that remembers the touch of your hand, and expresses the words in your heart, Million Dollar Memories. I wanted to take your part, take away your pain, your worries; "No more needles, no more hospitals, no more strangers in the night." If I only could have done more. I wander through this life you left behind; I am lost. You came into my life and gave me your love and I will never be the same. I have been blessed; I could never ask for more except that you were back, here with me and your little Teddy. "If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to Heaven, and bring you home again."
