Tribute & Message From The Family

Nefelie Stavrou Kudela of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2019 at the age of 88. Nefelie was born on the beautiful island of Cyprus, birthplace of Aphrodite, and resided in the village of Myrtou. She attended school in Nicosia, Cyprus. Upon graduation, Nefelie taught French to American children whose parents worked at the American Embassy. Nefelie met her future husband, Richard Kudela, who was working in Cyprus with the U.S. State Department. They were married in 1954 and moved to Chicago, Illinois, to begin their life together and raise their family.

After ten years, the family relocated to Austin, Texas, where Nefelie gave her time volunteering over the next several decades with Daughters of Charity at Holy Cross and Seton Northwest Hospitals. She enjoyed traveling, music, volunteering, baking, and reading. Nefelie loved her family very much, both here and in her beloved Cyprus and would travel there every few years throughout the course of her life. Nefelie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Kudela and is survived by her daughter Julie Cahoon and husband Aaron of Austin, son John Kudela of San Diego, son Mark Kudela and wife Carrie of Austin, along with four cherished grandchildren: Collin Cahoon, Tanner, Taber and Gabrielle Kudela. She is also survived by her sister, Ismini Papadouris of Nicosia, Cyprus and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Graveside services for family will be held February 6, 2019 at Austin Memorial Park. Pallbearers are John Kudela, Mark Kudela, Collin Cahoon, Taber Kudela, Aaron Cahoon, and Gregory Mouzaros.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the charity of your choice.
