Tribute & Message From The Family

Doris passed away peacefully on January 16, 2019, at her home surrounded by family eleven days before her 94th birthday. Doris was a second generation Austinite and extremely proud of her Swedish heritage.

Long before it was fashionable for women to have careers, Doris helped set the standard for working mothers. Doris was married to Willard for 48 years, who passed away in 2000. She was in every sense a partner with her husband; together they ran a luggage factory in the 40's and 50's, and for close to five decades, a furniture manufacturing and retail showroom called The Tropic Shop located at South Congress and Barton Springs Road. In the late 60's they also launched the Finkelstein Texas Bar Review that prepared thousands of law graduates for the Texas bar exam.

Doris is survived by her three children: William (Jeri) of Dallas, Mary (Michael) and Nancy of Austin; five grandchildren: Robin (Evan) Stone, Lisa (Armand) Sadoughi, Shana (Sam) Bygott-Webb, Stacey (Keegan) Archer and Connor Kutach; and nine great-grandchildren: Katie, Lexie, Jack, Evie, Asher, Charlie, Ivy, Leo and Maximilian.

Doris will always be remembered as a strong woman, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and most of all, a kind and graceful lady.

Funeral services will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish at 3125 North Lamar at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 18, with burial following in the Agudas Achim Section of Austin Memorial Park. Rabbi Yitzchak Cohen of Dallas will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
