Tribute & Message From The Family

On Monday, November 12, 2018, Ellen Amy Glass, devoted wife, mother of two and Nana of three, passed away at the age of 63.

Ellen was born on May 9, 1955 in Killeen, TX to Robert Amy and Vivian Becker. After graduating from Irvin High School in El Paso, at the age of 18, Ellen fearlessly made the move to Washington, DC to spend over four years working for the FBI. Following her tenure with top secret clearance, Ellen joined the Texas Department of Transportation. She served TXDOT for 31 years as a clerical supervisor until her eventual retirement. On March 1, 1980, she married Marty Glass in Austin, TX. They raised two children, Jennifer and Travis.

Throughout her life, Ellen was an unapologetic tomboy. Her skill in crocheting, needlepoint, macrame, and sewing were balanced by her love of horses, barrel racing, dogs, hunting, fishing and camping. Ellen participated in silhouette shooting competitions, in both pistol and rifle, where she earned the rating of AAA shooter in her first match. In later years, Ellen tirelessly served the Connally High School Band Boosters organization: first as Event Support Vice President for 2 years, then as President for another 3 years. Ellen also had a passion for woodworking. She used her skill with a scroll saw to create pieces that were admired not only by family and friends, but also by fellow woodworkers and craftsmen. She was known for her easy manner, brilliant smile, and generous spirit.

Ellen was preceded in death by her father Robert and her mother Vivian. She is survived by her husband Marty, her two children Jennifer and Travis, her siblings Tommy, Barbara, and Tish, her grandchildren Grayson, Evelyn, and August, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. After a courageous battle with diffused gastric cancer and Parkinson's disease, Ellen passed peacefully with a firm grip and a beautiful smile.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel, 1200 S. Bagdad Road in Leander, TX. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery.

I worked with Ellen for several years at TXDOT, she was my first supervisor. She was a great boss and a wonderful friend. We enjoyed talking about needlepoint and different craft projects. She holds a very special place in my heart and always will. Marty, Jennifer and Travis I am so very sorry for ya'lls loss. You are in my prayers. Your mom loved you and those grandbabies with all her heart. She will live on thru them.
