Tribute & Message From The Family

Brenda Maher Parten passed away on November 3, 2018 in Leander, Texas. Brenda was born on October 15, 1947 in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Richard and Margaret (Donovan) Maher. She spent much of her childhood with her widowed mother and three siblings in Lubbock, Texas. She attended Christ the King Cathedral school and graduated from Monterey H.S. in 1966. She graduated from Texas Tech University in 1970.

Brenda taught in Orange County, California, Amarillo, Texas and Lubbock, Texas for many years. She taught at all levels of elementary school and preschool. She also created crafts and jewelry under "Brenda's Designs" for several years.

Brenda loved arts and crafts from making plastic ornaments and jewelry to painting a mural on a long cement wall in the back yard. She could and did sew almost anything from dresses to a dinosaur mascot costume. Brenda loved listening to Irish music and celebrating her Irish heritage. She loved crossword puzzles, and really enjoyed meeting new people. She had a quick smile and compliment for everyone. She would talk to anyone.

Brenda was a member of St Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Lubbock, Texas for several years.

Brenda is survived by her husband of 47 years, Micheal Parten; son Brian and wife Ginger Parten of Burnet, Texas; a very special nephew, Mike Maher and wife Angela of Rowlett, Texas. She is also survived by her brother Micheal Maher and wife Joan of San Jose, California; her sister Dierdre Maher and husband Lou Bewersdorf of Encinitas, California; and sister-in-law Robin Maher of Austin, Texas; three beloved grandchildren: Cierra, Jesse and Dakota Parten of Burnet, Texas; nieces and nephews: Katherine, Daniel, and Brendan Maher of California; Mike, Joseph (Jack), and Margaret (Maggie) Maher of Texas; grand nieces and nephews: Aiden and Lucie Maher of Texas; numerous Donovan cousins and other friends and family.

Brenda was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret, father, Richard, brother, Patrick Maher, and sister-in-law, Christi Williams.

Condolence & Memory Journal

I loved Brenda! My entire family loved Brenda. She made each of us feel special with witty, descriptive compliments. She was thoughtful (full of thought for) friends, family, and strangers everywhere. It was like a happy job for her that she remembered favorite and preferred "everything" about everyone. When she visited our home, my kitchen was spotless, and my garden weeds were gone when she left. When did she do that?

As much as she did for friends, her focus never left her family. We would say she took care of her mother, but she would say she had fun with her mother. She and Mickey provided an open-door home and recharging station for many. She had fun with her brothers and faithful sister Deirdre. Even in sad times, her smile and a quip or two diffused grief, if only for a minute.

I will miss my friend Brenda but will still giggle at the silliness we shared for 46 years.

My dearest Brenda, how I've missed you and wished I'd had a number to contact you. I've missed you and will continue to miss you. I know that the Lord has opened His arms to you as you were a faithful servant.

My deepest condolences to all of the family most especially to her husband, son and family and Deirdre. I loved Brenda so much and often thought of her especially on her birthday. She was a wonderful person, and I considered her more than a patient, but a friend. She touched my life, and I have great memories of her as she acted motherly towards me always. May she rest in peace through the mercy of our Lord.
