Condolence & Memory Journal

I regretted reading the obituary of Lon Gee. We were good friends at The Courtyard during our tennis playing days. It was, "Who would he ask to play in a tournament -- Millie Dalrymple (my very best friend) or Cathy Turpin? Those were the days! He was smart, polite, funny, fair, and outgoing. My husband, Bill, said he was the most pleasant person he ever knew.

Our sympathy to the Gee family,

Cathy Turpin

Candle

Nell I worked at Far West HEB from 2000 until 2011 at the demo table. I talked with you almost daily and I remember so fondly your sincere sweetness. Sometimes your husband would be shopping with you. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss.

One of the finest gentlemen I have had the pleasure of knowing. He would instantly bring a smile to anyone he happened to be associated with. His quick whit matched his consistency of loving life and appreciating family and friendships. All of us with the "Gee Tennis Group" will continue to play on with fond memories.

My condolences to Nell and Alan and all of the rest of his family. Made me smile to think of him once again seeing Wayne and Christine, Estelle, Daisy, Jesse, and his mother along with many others. I'm sure he and Samuel Gee have much to discuss! What a sweetheart Lon was. He will so be missed. It was a 98 year great run!

A sweet Uncle along with Aunt Nell to me and my family. Always so friendly and welcoming at family gatherings. I have read his book "Samuel Gee and His Descendants" many, many times. And the sweet local TV news report on Valentines day last year about Lon and Nell's unwavering love for many years was so inspirational. Uncle Lon helped make me so proud to be a Gee. Tremendous research went into the writing of his book. I wish comfort, my prayers go out to Nell, their two sons and their families at this time.

During our many years of playing tennis, Lon always referred to me as "junior." His prowess on the courts cost me many pitchers of beer afterward. But the price was well worth knowing such a caring and giving gentleman. He and Nell, ever the gracious hosts at suppers, were indeed the match made in Heaven. Game, set, and match, Lon.

We're sadden to learn Lon's earthly journey is ended, yet know his spirit has moved to the AD Court.

I was privileged to be a junior member of Lon's "coffee club" formed by ex-tennis players, including my father. I will miss his gentle manner and wonderful sense of humor. He was a wonderful man.
