Tribute & Message From The Family

George Weathers Martin (known affectionately as G. W.) was born on April 27, 1940 in Waco, Texas and chose Austin as his home since 1958. He died on Monday, February 13, 2017 at his home in Barton Creek.

In 1958, G. W. attended the University of Texas on an athletic scholarship, where he played football under Coach Darrell Royal. It was there that he met the love of his life, Carole. They married in 1964 and this past year celebrated 52 years of marriage. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1961, where he proudly served as a sea-going Marine aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown and completed his service at Camp Pendleton, California.

For the majority of his career, G. W. was associated with American Founders Life Insurance Company. He was a proud fifth-generation Texan who was known for his exquisite taste in cowboy hats and boots, not to mention his substantial collections of them. G. W. was also an avid gun collector and hunter. He loved sharing his passion for Texas and the great outdoors with his grandsons, Carson and Hunter, who were the greatest joy in his life. G. W. lived a life of dignity and is now rejoicing in the presence of his Heavenly Father and his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

G. W. is adored by his beloved wife Carole Hickman Martin, his son Russell Martin, daughter Gigi Spencer, son-in-law Tom Spencer, his grandsons Carson and Hunter Spencer and his brother David Dent Martin.

Visitation will be Friday, February 17th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78705.

A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at St. Luke's on the Lake Episcopal Church, 5600 Ranch Road 620 North, Austin, Texas, 78732, with Marine Corps Honors. Burial will be at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio at 1:45 p.m., Monday, February 27th.

Contributions in G. W.'s honor may be made to the Patriot Warrior Foundation at www.pwf.us.com, where 100% of proceeds provide morale boosting outdoor activities for wounded Veterans and their families.
