I'm so sad to learn of Dan's passing. In the seven years I was privileged to work as Dan's Administrative Coordinator at UT System before I retired in1996, I found him to be the very best part of my entire working career. He was ever steady at the wheel, good humored (sometimes mischievous), a good listener, wise decision maker, inspiring ball of energy! Will never forget him, my friendship with Jo ... very special and important people. He touched so many lives in such positive ways. I deeply regret I won't be able to be with friends and family at the celebration of this wonderful man's life at Good Shepherd on Wednesday, as I'm way over here in Wales with the Morris family. But my condolences and prayers are with you all, and I celebrate Dan Burck's good life!

Dan put his heart and soul into making the impossible, possible for others. It makes me sad to think of a world without him. He was a true gentleman, a true Texan, and we feel lucky to have been able to call him a friend. Penny, please know that our prayers are with you and your wonderful family.

I will remember all of the great golf games that we had and all of the great stories about managing BEVO during the trip to ND when he was at Texas. A great friend; he just went on up ahead to light the way for me and you.

Dan and I were introduced while I was working as Chief of Staff to the Texas House Speaker in the 1980's. This began a long friendship that involved work together at UT, travel and golf. He exemplified the finest characteristics and I admired him greatly. I will miss him. He made me a better person and set a high standard for all of us to follow. Deepest sympathy to Penny and all the family.

I had the opportunity to serve on the American Campus Board with Dan as our Chairman. I will always remember his thoughtful and firm guidance that was truly enlightened. Although I only worked with Dan for less than two years, he has made a permanent impression on me as a man who lived his life fully and well. My condolences to the family, he will be missed dearly by everyone.
