I did not personally know Mark, but I knew him through his wife, Leslie H. Both of them were students I saw on campus but they were not in my inner circle of friends. However, I got to know Leslie Hussein better during my graduate years. But both of them were well known on campus. I remembered Mark as being a funny guy and definitely tall. His wife Leslie and her mother stayed at my place in Maryland for a

The last memory I have of Mark is several weeks ago, at TSD. He was working on a PhD project that involved many staff members coming in and out. I was there to participate. His adorable daughter was walking by with her class. She ran into the room where she saw her Daddy and he had the greatest look of joy when she hugged his legs. My heart was touched to see how much he truly loved his family. Rest in peace Friend, you will and are missed by many.

I am truly shocked, deeply saddened, and at a loss for words. I liked, respected, and admired Mark very much. I have so many happy memories of working with him at TSD. He was very personable, knowledgeable, and helpful. A special memory happened last year, when it just happened that he and I were both waiting for our cars to be repaired at the Toyota dealership. We got to chat for well over an hour, and shared many ideas. It was so nice to see him. That is a memory I will always cherish. I will miss him.

Leslie, Trent and Shanna -

"A stranger to no one", as Dee Dee aptly described Mark is how I will remember him. Mark and I bonded quickly when I joined the staff at TSD in 2002. We frequently shared recommendations on movies, books and chatted about old Austin in the slacker days of which I was a peripheral part. After he left TSD, I always knew I could email him with a sensitive query, night or day, and he would

I met Mark in my first years working at TSD. As principal, I remember a common refrain of his being “anything for our students.” When he left to pursue his PhD, I contacted him-reminding him of his frequent refrain and asked for a favor on behalf of a student. Mark, of course, was quick to accept.

The last time I saw him was a few weeks ago across campus at TSD. He was holding his daughter’s hand walking her into

To Diane, Mark's mother,

I'm saddened about this tragic accident.
I never forget how handsome Mark's father, Eddie, was when he came to FSD to teach deaf kids that we young ladies crashed after him before he married you. Still hard to believe that he passed away at almost same middle age as your beloved boy, but I want to remind you that you're lucky to have them in your life. They're good men. May they be together in heaven & may
